Background:

The Datai Langkawi, a luxury eco-resort in Malaysia, has implemented smart room technology with IoT-based energy management systems, automated lighting, and water-saving solutions. However, despite its commitment to sustainability, the hotel faces unexpected challenges:

The constant connectivity of IoT devices leads to higher energy consumption than expected.
The hotel regularly upgrades digital devices (e.g., smart thermostats, Al assistants), contributing to e-waste.
Some guests do not actively engage with the hotel’s eco-friendly digital features, making sustainability efforts less effective.
