OUM’s NBHS3104 Research Methodology assignment for the September 2026 semester tests whether nursing learners can design a sound research proposal. Learners choose their own nursing practice topic for a 60-mark proposal, and earn a further 10 marks by debating, in the online forum, the barriers that stop nurses from turning clinical observations into research.

Part I: Research Proposal (60 marks)

Objective: to evaluate learners’ cognitive and scientific skills in preparing research proposals that are relevant to nursing practice.

Requirement: prepare a research proposal based on the title of a research study of your interest that is relevant to nursing practice.

Part II: Online Class Participation (10 marks)

Discuss the following topic in the forum and submit proof of your participation:

Nurses are well positioned to identify gaps in patient care because of their continuous interaction with patients. However, relatively few clinical observations are translated into research that contributes to evidence-based practice. Critically discuss the extent to which individual, organisational and professional factors influence nurses’ participation in research. Which stakeholder (individual nurses, nurse leaders, healthcare organisations, educational institutions or policymakers) should bear the greatest responsibility for strengthening nursing research capacity?
