This BBCP4103 assignment places you in the role of a consultant to a Malaysian financial services organisation with around 2,000 employees. Many staff have been with the firm for more than ten years and are now in the middle stage of their careers, while digital technology, artificial intelligence, automation and restructuring are changing the skills their roles need. Your report must analyse the mid-career challenges, evaluate how both the organisation and its employees can respond, and design a structured mid-career development programme.
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to enable learners to analyse mid-career challenges and develop an appropriate programme to support employees’ continued career development.
Scenario
A Malaysian financial services organisation is reviewing how it supports employees who have reached the middle stage of their careers. You have been appointed as a consultant to assist the organisation in this review.
The organisation employs approximately 2,000 employees across various business and support functions, with a substantial number having worked for the organisation for more than ten years. In recent years it has introduced new digital technologies, increased the use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated selected work processes and restructured several job functions. These changes have altered the skills and competencies required for many existing roles and created new career opportunities in emerging areas.
Management has observed growing concerns among experienced employees. Some feel that their career progression has slowed after many years in similar roles, while others are uncertain whether their existing skills will remain relevant. Employees have also expressed concerns about limited advancement opportunities and their ability to adapt to changing job requirements. Some are considering moving into different roles within the organisation, while others appear less motivated to pursue further career development.
Although the organisation provides general training and development opportunities, it does not have a structured approach designed for employees at the middle stage of their careers. Management is concerned that this may lead to declining motivation and productivity and difficulty in retaining experienced employees. You have been asked to assess the situation and propose a mid-career development programme.
Requirements
Based on the scenario above, prepare a consultancy report addressing the following:
- Introduction
- Analyse the key challenges and their implications for both employees and the organisation at the middle stage of employees’ careers.
- Evaluate how the organisation and individual employees can respond to the mid-career challenges identified in your analysis.
- Develop a mid-career development programme for the organisation based on the issues identified in your analysis, with appropriate justification and consideration of how the programme can support employees’ continued career development.
- Conclusion
- Provide at least eight (8) credible sources published from 2020 onwards, with a minimum of three (3) peer-reviewed journal articles. Other sources may include books or book chapters, reputable websites, reports, white papers or other credible publications. All in-text citations and reference list entries must follow APA guidelines.
Note: Peer-reviewed journals relevant to this assignment include Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Career Development, Journal of Vocational Behaviour, Journal of Career Assessment and International Journal of Human Resource Management.

The BBCP4103 mid-career report is where many OUM learners lose marks by describing career stages instead of analysing them. Strong answers link the scenario's pressures, such as AI-driven role change, career plateauing and skills obsolescence, to career theory like Super's life-span model or the protean and boundaryless career, and then show what each challenge means for both the employee and the bank. The programme in part (d) should be practical: mentoring, internal mobility, reskilling pathways and career conversations, with a clear rationale for each. Our HR and management assignment helpers can guide you on structuring the consultancy report and finding the peer-reviewed sources.
