Part 1 Phonemic Transcription
In groups of 3-4 members, choose an excerpt consisting of 100 words (refer to the transcript) from one of Tom Scott’s YouTube video.

Do a broad phonemic transcription of the excerpt using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Ensure that stress is indicated in the phonemic transcription, whenever applicable, and incorporate weak and contracted forms as well.

Part 2 Aspects of Connected Speech
Listen to the chosen YouTube video. Analyse the speech to identify specific examples of the following features of connected speech:
- assimilation

Explain the feature of connected speech based on examples identified from the podcast episode and give reasons why the words involved are articulated differently compared to the phonemic transcription in Part 1. Use the relevant terms covered in Topic 8 of the course.
