WEEK 3

Browse the website/mobile apps.

Digital platforms are the primary bridge between global travelers and hospitality providers. The evolution of online booking systems has revolutionized how guests discover destinations, secure accommodations, and manage itineraries, offering a level of personalization and speed that traditional travel agencies cannot match. High-performing tourism portals utilize intuitive navigation and robust search filters to ensure that every traveler (regardless of their digital literacy) can find their ideal stay.

Key Sectors and Services:

  • Accommodation: Hotels, resorts, motels, bed and breakfasts, and hostels.
  • Food & Beverage: Restaurants, cafes, and catering.
  • Tourism & Attractions: Sightseeing, cultural events, historical sites, and eco-tourism.
  • Transportation: Airlines, trains, cruise ships, and car rentals.

Task 1

Pick a website/ mobile app with a lot of information that allows you to analyze its structure, navigation, and search functionality to understand how it organizes content for a diverse user group. Ensure that the websites or mobile apps you study involve booking or/and payment transactions. Identify the good and bad IA design for a tourism (web/mobile) application or system.

Task 2

Pick one TRADITIONAL or non-computerized case study that close approach to the website/ mobile apps, that your group choose in TASK 1. Retrieve the difference between the website/ mobile app (The case study you choose) with the traditional method implemented according to your Task 1.

(Organization and Labelling)

  1. Identify the main categories that are used in the website/mobile apps. List and describe them.
  2. How does the website/mobile apps organize (divide) its contents?
  3. What are the colors used in the website/mobile apps such as theme colors /company logo colours etc.?
  4. Identify if there are any advertisement areas in the website/mobile apps.

(Searching and Navigation)

  1. Identify the global, local and contextual navigation.
  2. Can we search for anything on the website?
  3. Identify the steps related to policy, regulations, and standards.

Task 4

Formulate Scenario and 3-4 tasks to represent any of the information-seeking behaviour types according to the theory that you learned (Notes: Implement in your computerized case study you selected).

  • Identify what you want to observe (ex: user interaction behaviour & Berry picking criteria & UX etc.)
  • Identify the users who will participate in the context inquiry.
  • Inform the chosen participants about the goal of the observation
  • Provide the participant with the task for them to perform
  • Record your observation.
  • You may ask questions while they are doing their task. Relate the questions to the IA.
  • Take note of their information-seeking behaviour
