1. Propose a topic area.
2. Include a possible research question at this stage (with an indication of the business issue the question relates to).
3. If possible, state what concepts/theory you expect to focus on at this stage.
4. Explain how you will use the qualitative methodology in this research.
The content of your research proposal report should exhibit the following:
1. Research evidence
- Students are expected to propose research question(s) and, where relevant, the research objectives are appropriate in relation to the context provided. Provide a realistic businessrelated study. The academic literature consulted gives a sound theoretical/conceptual underpinning to the research question.
- Identification of knowledge gaps. Identify gaps or limitations in the existing literature that your research aims to address. This requires a critical analysis of the current state of knowledge in your research field and an understanding of where your research fits within the broader academic discourse.
2. Knowledge and understanding of the subject
- Students are expected to propose the research field: You should have a comprehensive understanding of the research field in which your research question falls. This involves being well-versed in the fundamental concepts, theories, methodologies and current debates within the field.
- Conduct a thorough review of the existing academic literature relevant to your research question. This will help you identify the key theories, concepts and frameworks that have been previously proposed and provide a foundation for your research. The literature review should include seminal works, recent publications and relevant studies that inform your research question.
3. Analysis
- Students are expected to propose research and consider relevant methodological issues (for example, design, sampling; ethics; data generation, etc.)
- Develop a conceptual framework that outlines the key concepts (sensitising concepts) and proposed linkages relevant to your research question. This framework should draw upon existing theories and concepts from the literature and provide a coherent interpretive basis for your qualitative study.
- Theoretical perspectives and approaches are relevant to your research question. This includes understanding the foundational theories and models that have been proposed in the field and considering which theoretical framework aligns best with your research objectives.
4. Practical application and deployment
- Students are expected to provide integration of multiple disciplines, depending on the nature of your research question, it may be necessary to draw upon multiple disciplines to provide a comprehensive theoretical underpinning. Be open to interdisciplinary perspectives and consider how insights from different fields can enrich your understanding and analysis.
- Critical thinking and engage in critical thinking and analysis of the literature to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of existing theories and concepts. This will help you develop a well-rounded understanding of the subject and ensure that your research question is grounded in a strong theoretical foundation.
5. Skills for professional practice
- Students are expected to accurately cite and reference all sources used in the literature review. Use APA 7th referencing style consistently throughout the proposal.
- Provide in-text citations for all direct quotations, paraphrases and references to specific ideas or findings in a professional manner.
Submission Guidelines
Word count: The word length is 1000 words ± 10% (2 – 3 pages), excluding table of contents and references but including tables and figures. State the page number in all the content pages.
Formatting: The assignment must be submitted as a Word Document. The settings of the Word document include A4 portrait size paper with 1-inch page margins in Times New Roman 12 with 1.5 line spacing in justified format.
