Overview
This Group Coursework is developed as an integral part of the course to enable student to apply advanced financial concepts and equity valuation techniques at an appropriate level of difficulty.
The Group Coursework Written Report requires students to form groups of up to a maximum of Five (5) students. Each group shall be evaluated based on their ability to articulate arguments in support of their opinions and preparation of a comprehensive written report.

Academic Malpractice
Plagiarism, whether inadvertent or deliberate, shall include the following:

Collusion, whether inadvertent or deliberate, shall include the following:

- Submitting a “group assignment” that was jointly prepared by the group and any external party, e.g. family, students from other subjects, or professionals.
- Copying each other’s work and passing it off as an individual effort.
Group Coursework Question (30%)
Objective
This assignment is aimed to accomplish an inclusive business analysis on equity valuation of the publicly traded companies. It is also designed to enhance analytical and communication skills of students.
Instructions
- Choose a TOP 50 publicly traded company (non-banking firm) listed in the United States that has successfully implemented Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices and has ESG scores available in the Bloomberg system. Preferably, select two companies from a sector that interests you or is relevant to your career aspirations.
- Conduct an industry analysis of the selected companies, gathering relevant financial information, industry data, and market trends.
- Perform equity valuation of the chosen companies using at least two different valuation methods. Justify your choice of methods based on the company’s characteristics and the prevailing market conditions.
- Write a comprehensive report comparing the two companies, recommend which one would be the preferred choice for investment, and justify your decision with supporting analysis.
Assessment Criteria
Company Overview: Provide a brief overview of the company, including its industry, core business activities, competitive positioning, and recent performance.
Industry Analysis: Conduct industry analysis of the selected company using the one of the analysis methods [e.g., Competitive Forces Model (Porter’s 5 Forces); Broad Factors Analysis (PEST Analysis); SWOT Analysis]. You may gather relevant financial data such as annual reports, income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements to assess company’s financial performance, growth prospects, risk factors, and industry dynamics.
Valuation Analysis: Choose and apply at least two valuation methods (e.g., Discounted Cash Flow, Comparable Company Analysis, Precedent Transactions, Dividend Discount Model, etc.). Clearly explain the assumptions, inputs, and rationale behind each valuation method used. Valuation Results: Present the valuation results obtained from each method. Discuss any discrepancies between the results and potential reasons behind them.
Investment Recommendation: Based on your analysis, provide a recommendation on whether to buy, sell, or hold the company’s stock. Justify your recommendation with reference to your valuation results, risk assessment, and market conditions.
Conclusion: Summarise the key findings from analysis and reflect the significance of the findings in the context of investment decision making.
Clarity and Presentation: Ensure clarity, coherence, and professionalism in your report. Use appropriate headings, subheadings, and formatting for better organization. Include tables, charts, and graphs where necessary to support your analysis. Consistently uses relevant references to support analysis, arguments, and conclusions. Ensures proper citation of sources and references used in the report according to the APA referencing style.
