You are required to submit a Research Proposal by the end of the semester. This is a group assignment, with each group consisting of 3-5 students. The assignment carries 50% of your in-course marks. Here are the detailed instructions:
- Group Formation: Form groups of 3-5 students. It is recommended to choose group members from the same course to ensure the topic is relevant and manageable.
- Topic Selection: Select a research topic that is related to your course. Ensure the topic is specific, feasible, and has sufficient scope for research.
- Proposal Structure: Your research proposal should be structured into three chapters:
- Chapter 1: Introduction: Provide background information, state the research problem, and outline the objectives of your study.
- Chapter 2: Literature Review: Summarize existing research related to your topic, highlighting gaps that your research aims to fill.
- Chapter 3: Methodology: Describe the research methods you will use to collect and analyze data.
- References: Include a list of references at the end of your proposal, following the appropriate citation style.
- Submission Deadline: Submit your completed research proposal by the end of the semester.
Work collaboratively, divide tasks effectively, and ensure each member contributes to the proposal.
General Requirements on Proposals
The assignment must adhere to standard academic documentation standards. (Failure to do so will result in loss of marks in the Format, Citations, and References criterion.)
i. Font size
Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, using a word processor. The letters should be in Times New Roman, size 12 points.
ii. Line Spacing
The body of the text should be 1.5-spaced. Single spacing is only permitted in tables, long quotations, short footnotes, notes, multi-line captions and references.
iii. Pagination
Font size 8 is recommended for page numbers.
Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, etc.) should be used in the preliminary section. All pages are to be numbered at the centre of the bottom.
iv. Subdivisions
The text should be divided into chapters, for example, Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc. Subdivisions can also be used. Content of each chapter may be divided under headings and sub-headings such as 1.1, 1.2, and 1.3 and so on. Headings should only be presented at a maximum of three levels.
v. Number of words
The proposal should usually be around 4500-5000 words (excluding references).

a. Research Philosophy:
Define the philosophical stance of your research (e.g., positivism, interpretivism, pragmatism). Explain how this philosophy influences your research approach and methods.
b. Research Approach:
Specify whether you are using a deductive or inductive approach. Justify your choice based on the nature of your research question and objectives.
c. Research Strategy:
Describe the overall strategy for your research (e.g., case study, survey, experiment, action research). Explain why this strategy is suitable for addressing your research problem.
d. Choices of Methods:
Indicate whether you are using a mono-method, mixed-method, or multi-method approach. Detail the specific methods you will use for data collection (e.g., interviews, questionnaires, observations).
e. Time Horizon:
Clarify the time frame of your study (e.g., cross-sectional or longitudinal). Justify your choice based on the research objectives and the nature of the data.
f. Techniques and Procedures:

2. References
As with any scholarly research paper, you must cite the sources you used in composing your proposal.
This section should testify to the fact that you did enough preparatory work to make sure the project will complement and not duplicate the efforts of other researchers. Cited works should always use a standard format that follows the writing style advised by the discipline of your course.
- References must be provided in the usual scholarly fashion. It helps to convince your reader that your proposal is worth pursuing if you can identify literature in the field and demonstrate that you understand it.
- Use the citation style proposed by the APA Referencing.
- Make sure that all materials cited in the text are also found in the list of references and vice versa. This will reflect your academic honesty in producing the research report.

- You must have at least 25 references from sources of authority (i.e. academic journals, academic websites, or textbooks). 3. Appendices
Include in this section all the relevant support materials especially the research instruments that are to be used in the study. This will indicate to whoever assesses your proposal that you are ready to embark on the intended research.
4. Grading and Distribution of marks
The assignment must adhere to standard academic documentation standards. (Failure to do so will result in loss of marks in the Format, Citations and References criterion.) The grading rubric (last page) which is a scoring guide that identifies the standards and criteria for this assignment will be used. 5. Submission of Proposal
- All proposals must be submitted online through MOODLE and ONLY the leader of each group needs to submit the assignment first to check the Turnitin (WEEK 12). Others student will submit later after week 12.
- Each BRSM tutor will create a new folder called “Submission of Proposal write up” in MOODLE. The submission will be on week 12 (TBA, TBA, 11.59pm -before the presentation in week 13 and 14).
**ANY LATE SUBMISSION, THE MARKS WILL BE REDUCE**
