Based on Assessment 1, you are required to prepare the following:

A. Research proposal

Write your Chapters 1 and 2 based on the following structure and suggested word count:

Chapter 1: Introduction

1.1 Background (200 words)
1.2 Problem Statement (200 words)
1.3 Research Objectives (100 words)
1.4 Research Questions (100 words)
1.5 Significance of the study (200 words)
1.6 Definition of the Key terms (200 words)

Chapter 2: Literature Review

2.1 Introduction (100 words)
2.2 Underpinning Theory (200 words)
2.3 Review of prior Empirical Research (200 words)
2.4 Conceptual Framework (200 words)
2.5 Research Hypotheses (200 words)
2.6 Theoretical Contribution (100 words)

B. Research proposal presentation

After completing your research proposal (Chapters 1 and 2), you are required to make a video presentation of 10-12 minutes of it.

• You will present your practical problem and support it with evidence (e.g. a short excerpt, figure or screenshot from credible academic/industry sources, with full citation).
• You are required to convince the listeners that your practical problem is solid and crucial, and requires an immediate solution.
• Moreover, you will explain how your research questions are aiming to find the solution to your practical problem.
• The presentation will end after you brief about your fundamental theory, contributions (specific and broad) and research objectives.
• You may make the video using PowerPoint or any other software as long as the content is clearly readable, and your face is clearly visible the whole time.

The content of your research proposal should exhibit the following: 

1. Research-informed literature

• Students are expected to demonstrate that their research proposals are grounded in credible academic literature, with clear justification in the Introduction and a logically developed Literature Review.
• APA Referencing conventions are expected to be followed.

2. Knowledge and understanding of subject

• Students are expected to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of both the problem statement associated with research and the main methods used in Business Research.

3. Analysis

• Students are expected to demonstrate an ability to select and justify both a research gap and literature appropriate to their research question(s).
• Provide a critical analysis and evaluation of the literature, highlighting strengths, weaknesses, gaps and controversies.
• Identify any conflicting or contradictory findings or theories in the literature and address how the chosen methodology navigates these challenges. Evaluate the applicability and suitability of the reviewed literature to the specific research context.

4. Practical application and deployment

• Students are expected to use high-quality and authoritative sources to support the significant of the study choices and decisions. Rely on reputable scholarly publications and credible academic databases. Avoid relying heavily on outdated or biased sources, ensuring the inclusion of recent and relevant research.

5. Skills for professional practice (presentation)

• Students are expected to communicate and present the research problem and literature effectively.

Submission guidelines

Word count: The word length is 2000 words ± 10% (3-5 pages), excluding table of contents and references but including tables and figures. State the page number in all the content pages.

Formatting:

Research proposal: The assignment must be submitted as a Word Document. The settings of the Word document include A4 portrait size paper with 1-inch page margins in Times New Roman 12 with 1.5 line spacing in justified format.

Presentation: Upload your video of 10-12 minutes to an online platform or file-sharing service, such as Google Drive, Dropbox or YouTube (you may refer to this instructional video on how to upload a video on YouTube). Once uploaded, provide the video URL link on the last page of your written proposal, before the References page.
