Part I (50%)

Purpose

This assignment aims to develop learners’ ability to analyse how cultural differences influence managerial behaviour and organisational practices in international settings. It challenges students to apply cross-cultural theories, evaluate the readiness of Malaysian managers for foreign assignments, and propose realistic adaptation activities that enhance managerial effectiveness in planning, organising, leading, and controlling across cultures. Through this task, learners are expected to demonstrate higher-order thinking, cultural awareness, and the ability to justify actions using conceptual frameworks and scholarly evidence.

Requirement

Select one (1) real Malaysian multinational company (MNC) and provide a brief company profile. Then, identify one (1) foreign host country that represents a contrasting national and workplace culture from Malaysia.  Analyse the company’s leadership culture, decision-making style, and communication norms, explaining how these characteristics reflect Malaysian cultural assumptions. Evaluate how the host country’s cultural logic and workplace expectations may challenge Malaysian managerial behaviour. Based on your analysis, propose three (3) cross-cultural adaptation activities that the company can use to prepare Malaysian managers for assignments in the host country. For each activity, describe the specific cultural issue it addresses, the managerial capability it seeks to strengthen, and explain how the activity supports better planning, organising, leading, and controlling in a multicultural environment. Support your analysis with at least four (4) academic references, including at least one scholarly source on cross-cultural leadership or international management, cited in APA format.
