Assignment Title:

Development of a Theoretical and Conceptual Framework for a Nursing Research Study

Instruction:

PLO 2: Utilize scientific thinking and reasoning skills in nursing research and theory (Research Framework Development)

You will work in a group (approx of 2-3 students), prepare a research framework approximately 1500 – 2000 words.

Objective:

This task aims to assess your ability to apply scientific reasoning in identifying, analyzing, and developing a suitable theoretical and conceptual framework for a nursing research topic of your choice. You are expected to demonstrate your understanding of how theory guides nursing research and supports the development of evidence-based practice.

Guidelines:

1. Introduction

  • Briefly introduce your chosen research topic.
  • Explain the importance of theory in nursing research.
  • Discuss how theoretical frameworks contribute to the development of nursing knowledge.

2. Content

a. Research Objectives and Variables

  • Clearly state the research objectives or questions.
  • Identify and explain the variables involved (independent, dependent, mediating, etc.).

b. Conceptual and Operational Definitions

  • Provide conceptual definitions (based on theory/literature).
  • Provide operational definitions (how each variable will be measured or observed in your study).

c. Review of Theoretical Frameworks

  • Discuss related or existing theoretical frameworks relevant to your topic.
  • Explain how these frameworks have been applied in previous studies within the same scope.

d. Justification of the Selected Framework

  • Justify why you have chosen a particular theoretical framework.
  • Explain its relevance and appropriateness to your study context.

e. Conceptual Framework Development

  • Construct your conceptual framework based on the selected theory and study variables.
  • Present it in a diagram form showing the relationship between variables.

f. Explanation of the Conceptual Framework

  • Describe the relationships shown in your diagram.
  • Explain how each variable is linked, and how the framework reflects your research objectives.

3. Conclusion

  • Summarize key points.
  • Reinforce how your framework will guide your study and contribute to nursing research.

4. Organization and References

  • Organize your report logically with clear headings and subheadings.
  • Use appropriate academic writing format (APA 7th edition).
  • Include at least five (5) scholarly references (journal articles, books, or credible academic sources).

5. Grammar and Preparedness

  • Use correct grammar, spelling, and sentence structure.
  • Demonstrate clarity, coherence, and critical thinking throughout your writing.
  • Ensure your work is well-prepared, properly formatted, and proofread before submission.

The group project should be submitted on 19 January 2025 before 4.00pm in the Ufuture. Marks will be deducted for every day the assignment was late.

Turnitin report should <30%. Grammarly report > 90%
