Task – Supply Chain Optimisation
Select a company with a complex supply chain structure and identify key areas for optimization to enhance efficiency and reduce operational costs. Develop a comprehensive plan outlining strategies for supply chain improvement. You could use the guide below in your report, however the guide shared below is not exhaustive. Please feel free to use your points if you want to.
1. Current Supply Chain Analysis.
a) Describe the current structure of the company’s supply chain. What are the primary flows within the supply chain?
b) Describe the industries / players involved in the entire supply chain network
 2. Identifying Optimisation opportunities.
a) Where are the potential areas for improvement within the supply chain? (e.g., procurement, logistics, inventory management, distribution)
b) Challenges encountered by the organization from a supply chain perspective.
3. Risk mitigation and resilience.
a) How can the supply chain be made more resilient to disruptions? What contingency plans can be put in place to mitigate risks (e.g., natural disasters, geopolitical issues)?
b) How can technology and digitalization be leveraged to streamline operations and enhance visibility across the supply chain?
4. Performance measurement and continuous improvement.
a) What key performance indicators (KPIs) should be tracked to assess the effectiveness of the optimized supply chain?
b) How will the company ensure continuous improvement and adaptation to evolving market dynamics and customer demands?
Written Report Guidelines
The written assignment (3000 to 4000 words) must include the historical background of the chosen organization.
The paper is to be written in a formal style but still at a level appropriate for reading by another student in this class who is not necessarily familiar with the topic. The report must include a strong thesis statement: underline it! Your assignment should have clearly labelled sections.
This assessment aligns to CLO 2 which is:
- Demonstrate business operation calculations for project management. (P5, PLO3)
The format is:
- A cover page with:
â—‹ the title of your paper
â—‹ your names
â—‹ the course number, the course title, and the semester - Number each page.
- An introduction, with your underlined thesis statement, providing an overview of the topic and paper.
- A conclusion and summary section including suggestions for follow-up information.
- A complete list of cited references organized by author, including all citation information.
The report must include cited references with at least three separate sources from print media (books, journals, magazines) and at least three references from the web. The cited references must be authoritative sources (see description below).
Working in a Group
Working as a group to prepare a report can be difficult. It requires some special considerations. This task will be an organizational challenge, both in dividing up the work and in scheduling team meetings. Here are some suggestions.
Group communication will be vitally important. Exchange preferred contact information (email, phone number, preferred meeting place, etc.).
- Decide right away on regular, mutually convenient meeting times.
- Determine how you want to organize. Will one person be the leader? Will you each find information separately and then combine it? Will each person write an entire section of the paper, or simply provide notes and isolated paragraphs? YOU need to decide! However, keep in mind that the final report must be seamless regarding writing style, so if different people write different sections, you must apply your editing skills to create consistency across the sections.
