A floor plan of a reinforced concrete (RC) framed building is shown in Figure 1.
Reinforced concrete slabs spanning as indicated are supported by RC beams AB. Beam A2-B2 carry two columns of 60 kN at C1 and 40 kN at C2.

Thickness of reinforce concrete slab = 200 mm
Imposed load for slab = 3.0 kN/m²
Density of reinforce concrete = 24 kN/m3

Characteristic strength of concrete, fcu = 25 N/mm2
Characteristic strength of reinforcement, fy = 460 N/mm2
Diameter of main reinforcement = 25 mm
Diameter of stirrup = 8 mm
Size of beam = 200 mm x 450 mm
Density of reinforce concrete = 24 kN/m3
Concrete cover = 20 mm
- Find the design loads on the beam A2-B2.
(10 marks) - Find the reaction at the beam A2-B2 due to the system of loading on the beam.
(5 marks) - Draw the shear force and bending moment diagram for beam A2-B2.
(10 marks) - By using the limit state design method, design a suitable reinforced concrete beam A2-B2 to resist the maximum bending moment obtained.
(15 marks) - Choose a suitable size of shear reinforcement for the beam (A2-B2) if fyvertical = 250 N/mm² and fcu = 30 N/mm².
