Instruction & Submission

Please revise and improve your Master/PhD Thesis proposal based on what you have learned in Research Methodology course. Please take note that this research proposal is a preliminary research proposal required to fulfil the Course Learning Outcomes 2 and 3 of PPS10203 Research Methodology course (CLO2 Integrate good written communication skills in preparing a research proposal based on appropriate academic writing and CLO3 Demonstrate ethics and professionalism in scientific research). We do not expect the proposal to be perfect at this stage, nor do we expect you to stick to it very closely as your ideas will almost certainly change once you start to study, but we do expect you to write it as follows:

1. Title – The title of your proposal must reflect the content.
2. Introduction/research background – Background or introduction section provides a description of the basic facts and importance of the research area – What is your research area, the motivation of research, and how important is it for the industry practice/knowledge advancement?
3. Problem statement – Problem statement provides a clear and concise description of the issues that need to be addressed – What is the specific problem in that research area that you will address (e.g. lack of understanding of a subject, low performance …)?
4. Significance of Study – How your proposed research will fit into the existing body of academic knowledge and practice in the professional field. How your research will enhance knowledge or contribute to new understandings in the subject
5. Research questions/Research Objectives – Supply an overall aim and approximately 3 or 4 objectives that the research will address.
6. Literature Review – Write a short (preliminary) literature review, indicating the importance of previous related research or investigated literature and how your own research question might make a useful contribution to the area
7. Methodology – State the main research techniques (interviews, case studies, modelling etc.) you might use. Indicate your suggested data collection procedures, indicating sources and any possible difficulties.
8. Milestone & Gantt Chart – Please provide a plan of stages of your research development and thesis writing with a timeline of proposed goals for your program.
9. Ethical Consideration – Please state if your study requires ethical approval or any other considerations. Avoid unethical conduct during the course of your study.
10. References – A list of the scholarly references cited in the proposal.

1. Font: Times New Roman; 12
2. Spacing: 1.5
3. References & citation: APA format
4. Word count: 2,000 – 3,000
5. Please submit in pdf format

The research proposal constitutes 60% of the total course assessment. Please ensure that your proposal is submitted by 18 May 2026. Detailed submission procedures will be communicated via the Telegram group or the course website in due course.
