A company is assigned to design a crane system using a DC electric motor. The voltage level of the DC motor is 100V. There will be a 1W resistor connected between the voltage source and the DC motor. The motor is connected to a wheel axis via a gear to amplify the torque of the motor by a factor of 10. The wheel axis has a diameter of 10cm. The moment of inertia of the motor is 1kgm2 while the gearing system has a moment of inertia of 2kgm2. The viscous friction on the rotational system on all inertias is 10Nsm/rad. The crane is placed 50m above the ground. The load is enclosed in a package such that the viscous friction on the load as it moves is 10Ns/m. Perform the following activities:
- Draw the simscape model required for the rotational system. Assume the torque provided by the motor is a constant torque source. Assume that the gear is free running. Plot the angular velocity of the output of the gear versus time for torque values of 1Nm to 100Nm at steps of 1Nm on a 3D plot.(15 marks)
- Draw the simscape model required for the translational system. Assume the force provided by the wheel axis is an ideal force source. Clearly describe how did you model gravity on the model and what does the reference block in your model represent. Assume that the crane is lifting a 50kg load from ground to its height. Plot the motion of the load versus time from the time it starts to be lift to the point of time it reaches the crane height (25 marks)
- Draw the simscape model required to have the rotational system to include the Rotational Electromechanical Converter to act as the DC motor. Connect the required voltage source and resistor as stated in the system description above(10 marks)
- Combine the system in C and the system in B using a wheel and axis(5 marks)
- Plot the velocity of the load versus time as the load is lifted from the ground to the crane height as the mass of the load is varied between 1kg to 100kg in steps of 1kg. Data of plot must come from the simulation results of the model. No marks will be awarded for results generated from simplified model codes generated by AI means or any other means.(10 marks)
- Write a function in matlab which takes the mass of the load as the input, the initial height of the load and the time required for the mass to reach ground(treach). The output of the function should be the voltage required to ensure the load reaches the ground according to the time specified in the input of the function(treach). Function must make use of model generated in C. No marks will be provided if other means are used. (35 marks)
