This assignment is designed to provide students with practical experience in working with sensing elements and data analysis. Students are required to select one type of sensor, identify its specifications, and gather relevant data from open-source platforms. They will then perform statistical analysis—such as calculating the mean and standard deviation—to interpret and evaluate the data.

Tasks & Instructions

Task 1: Sensor Specification and Data Collection (CLO2)

  1. Sensor Selection
    o Choose one type of sensor (e.g., temperature, light, pressure, etc.) relevant to your interest or application.
    o Justify your choice based on typical use cases.
  2. Specification Review
    o Research and document the sensor’s specifications (e.g., range, sensitivity, accuracy, resolution).
    o Refer to the manufacturer’s datasheet or reliable online resources.
  3. Data Collection
    o Search for and obtain open-source datasets related to the chosen sensor from platforms such as Kaggle, GitHub, or academic databases.
    o Ensure the data is relevant and sufficient for statistical analysis.

Task 2: Data Analysis and Interpretation (CLO1)

  1. Data Preparation
    o Clean the dataset by removing any missing or inconsistent entries.
    o Organize the data for analysis (e.g., tabulate in Excel or import into Python).
  2. Statistical Analysis
    o Calculate descriptive statistics such as mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and variance.
    o Visualize the data using graphs (e.g., histograms, line charts) to observe trends or anomalies.
  3. Interpretation
    o Discuss the implications of the statistical findings in relation to the sensor’s performance.
    o Reflect on the reliability and limitations of the collected data.

Instructions:

  1. Group Project Assignment.
  2. The assignment report must be computer-typed and attractive computational results.
  3. Printing style: Font size 12, Times New Roman, 1.5 lines spacing, single column, one sided, 1″ page margin.
  4. Write the assignment report formatting using Word, includes your group no and group member’s name and ID.
  5. The citation and reference refer to FYP format (APA format).
  6. Upload the assignment via medium CN/share link, include the marking rubric. As refer date submission above.
